This is a late Qing dynasty famille rose decorative plate from the Xianfeng to Tongzhi period, decorated with Wu Shuang Pu (Biographies of Unparalleled Heroes) scenes. The composition depicts finely detailed figural narratives, celebrating the filial piety of Cao Xiaonü, who threw herself into the river to save her father, as well as Tao Yuanming’s ideal of living in seclusion and remaining detached from worldly affairs in pursuit of a free and tranquil life.
