Arie Smit (1916–2016) was a Dutch-born artist best known for his vibrant paintings of Balinese life and landscapes. After working as a cartographer in the Dutch East Indies, he settled in Bali in 1956. Inspired by the island’s colors and scenery, he developed a lively, expressive style and became a key figure in Balinese modern art. He also inspired the “Young Artists” movement, leaving a lasting artistic legacy.
